Arcadia

Arcadia site to be sold

The High Court in London has appointed accountants Grant Thornton to take over the assets of Glenkerrin UK, the company which owns the Arcadia site. This follows the earlier appointment of Grant Thornton as administrators of Glenkerrin's Irish assets.

Glenkerrin's plans for the Arcadia site, which SEC vigorously opposed, were rejected after the public inquiry in summer 2009. Now that the company is in adminstration, buyers will be sought for all Glenkerrin's UK properties.

We do not know what this will mean for the future of this part of central Ealing but we shall be monitoring the situation closely. Whether the site will be sold in one piece or is broken up into smaller parcels remains to be seen.

In working out how much the land is worth, potential purchasers will no doubt be contacting Ealing planning department to discover what kind of development would be acceptable to them. Unfortunately little obvious progress seems to have been made on this question since the Arcadia application was ruled out by the Secretary of State more than a year ago.

Some options for the site prepared by the Tibbalds consultancy formed part of last year's LDF public consultation but there the matter has rested. SEC believes this uncertainty adds to the case for a Neighbourhood Plan to which everyone who lives, works or does business in Ealing should have the chance to input.
