This is a special page with details of what has happened in the Haven Green area over the past years and includes items concerning the green itself and adjacent areas such as the old stables, cycle parking and effect of Crossrail and station works on the green.

Haven Green cycle parking
Back in 2017, Ealing introroduced plans to to contruct a cycle hub in part of what is commonly known as the "BBC Car Park" on the south side of Haven Green alongside the railway. This was to remove the cycle stands presently situated actually on the green spaces nearby.
There was a planning application but the proposals were never carried out. However things may change when the temporary site of the Crossrail works is finally removed. We will try to keep you up to date. Meanwhile the original information can be found on this Haven Green archive site .
5th June 2017: Haven Green cycle parking
You may or may not be aware of Ealing's plans to contruct a cycle hub with a steel structure roof and night-time floodlighting in part of what is commonly known as the "BBC Car Park" on the south side of Haven Green alongside the railway. This is to remove the cycle stands presently situated actually on the green spaces nearby.
Here is a link to the planning application search site and you are encouraged to make comments on the application. The application number to enter where it asks for "keyword, reference number" etc is 171986FUL. It seems that the application closed on 21st April but your comments may still be considered.
One consideration for pedestrians using the path alongside to get from the west side of the green to the station is that this will become a shared pedestrian/cyclists area with cyclists required to dismount and wheel their bikes all the way into the new hub. You may wish to comment on this proposal as we already suffer from cyclists using pavements around pedestrians and prams and disabled carriages.
6th May 2016:- Application by Ealing to de-register part of Haven Green as Common Land.
Following court action by The Friends of Haven Green (FOHG), Ealing has applied to the Planning Inspectorate to de-register the lozenge of land on which the cycle hub stands. FOHG had said that, because it is Common Land, it would require approval of The Government.
FOHG say that this would set a precedent for Ealing and other councils to erode parts of other Common Land which is at present safeguarded for future generations to enjoy.

19th February 2015:
Latest on the Haven Green Planning Inspectorate Hearing.
The Inspectors report on Ealing Council's application to exchange some land on Haven Green in preparation for Crossrail and other miscellaneous changes was published on 11th February.
Friends of Haven Green had objected to the plans because, as Common Land, the Green is protected by national legislation for future generations to enjoy as open space. The inspector accepted all FoHG’s main arguments and refused to approve the changes the Council wanted to make. He gave permission only to resurface existing footpaths.
At the same time he had been asked to consider Ealing's application to retain the electricity sub-station beyond it's original permission to 2014 for a new period of 25years. This consent was also refused.

Petition against demolition of "The Haven" on Haven Green.
It seems there is a development proposal that would remove both the old "Stables" Building - more recently known as "The Haven Pub and Restaurant" - facing onto Haven Green together with more building in the green space both sides of the railway tracks. There would also be considerable redevelopment and demolition in Springbridge Mews on the other side of the Multi-Storey Car Park.
The stables were built on Edward Wood's "Hanger Hill Estate, Ealing" in 1877 and, along with adjacent properties, are locally listed and form the start of the Haven Green Conservation Area.
A petition was organised to oppose this and, endorsed by 810 objectors was hand-delivered to Ealing Planning Department on 4th August with over 900 objectors.
In the event, the planning committee voted NOT to approve the plan although Developers may lead a renewed plan for the demolition of properties in Springbridge Mews to create a more direct link from the station to Dickens Yard - Watch this space!

8th September 2014:
On Thursday 25th September 2014, The Planning Inspectorate's Martin Elliott will hold a hearing at Ealing Town Hall into Ealing's application for changes at Haven Green.
Ealing Council are applying to exchange some land on Haven Green in preparation for the additional passengers using Ealing Broadway Station as a result of the arrival of Crossrail.
Friends of Haven Green (FoHG), The Central Ealing Residents' Assocation and The Open Spaces Society all oppose Ealing's application. All object to a further loss of Common Land on top of the long history of piecemeal encroachment since the green was designated as a Common in 1968.

STOP PRESS A Petition endorsed by 810 objectors was hand-delivered to Ealing Planning Department on 4th August but more names are still arriving and will be added to an "Addendum sheet" to be lodged later this month when everyone is back at work after the holidays!
This has now been done and, as at 15th September, the total stands at 913 objectors
19th April 2013: Haven Green complaint
A formal complaint has been made to Ealing Council about unauthorised work to instal permanent cycle racks on part of Haven Green.
Friends of Haven Green was told originally told that racks on the grass area close to the Shanakee pub were only temporary while the covered cycle hub was being installed on the other side of the road. But now a solid concrete base has been dug without the government authority which is legally required to erect structures on common land.
FoHG has asked the Council to stop the work until official permission has been granted.
